Just like in the fashion industry, September is shaping up
to be a monumental month for EDM artists as well. During what felt like an
eternity without new albums or mixes, we fell into a post-Ultra/EDC depression.
Any fresh music faded into the monotony of summer school, lifeguarding, or
trolling Tumblr for hours. Now that school is back in session, it’s time to
wake up with these three album releases, all of which are bound to be amazing.
Avicii
Avicii has become a household name in EDM since his start in
2010, ranking number three in DJ Mag’s top 100 last year. That’s the kind of
meteoric rise you can expect when Tiesto hand-picks you for an Ibiza residency
without so much as album release under your belt. His forthcoming album drops September 17.
Expect a lot of fangirling from fans who have only heard “Levels” in the
basement of a knitting club party. Other than the annoying social media blitz
that we know will ensue, Avicii’s new album should be spectacular. His
soundcloud promo and release of the single “Wake Me Up” received fairly
positive review, with a more vocally-centered sound than before. Schedule your
Swedish-themed function for September 17, with plenty of Svedka and Ikea
furniture to dance upon.
Kaskade
Kaskade will always have top spot in my heart, and in my
iPod. After nine albums, a dozen mixes, and a Grammy nod, Kaskade has a sterling
reputation to uphold for the newest album, Atmosphere.
The single has already achieved massive commercial success after it was dropped
at Ultra Music Festival in June. Fans went wild during both his Redux tour,
which offered a more intimate setting, and his residency at Marquee Dayclub in
Las Vegas. Whether they’re drunkenly splashing in an Olympic pool or mobbing
the stage, Kaskade fans can barely contain their, ahem, excitement. Atmosphere drops September 10, and is
already available for pre-order.
Krewella
The term “badass” was invented in 2007 in Chicago, Illinois,
to describe Krewella. Kidding, but the sisters (and producer) behind Krewella
redefine “badass” with their epic stage presence and funky mixes. After a jaw-dropping
Ultra performance, everyone is waiting on Krewella’s first studio album, Get Wet. Coming to a city near you, the
Get Wet Tour runs September through November and coincides with their album
release on September 24. Snag some free downloads from their website and
Facebook, make a DIY muscle tee a la the Krewella girls, and try not to get too
impatient waiting.
There you have it. Hopefully by now your sunburn has faded,
your computer battery is charged, and you’re ready to wake up for a fall filled
with hot new music.
